Executing Classic (Mac OS 9) on an Intel Mac

SheepShaver the Classic emulator for Mar or Windows, you can download it here |
You will need three things: a classic emulator (SheepShaver), a software ROM and a system prior to 9.1.
Getting the emulator is easy. It is called SheepShaver and you can simply download it from here and decompress it into any Mac folder (better in the Applications folder). Next, you must find a ROM. For this you will need TomeViewer which must be executed on a Mac (prior Intel) with the classic and the AppleServer. Once you have these elements, you execute the TomeViewer and extract the Mac OS ROM from the AppleServer.
Don’t lose hope! You are almost there! Now what you need is a copy of the system that works with emulator which you can download from here (version 7.5). Finally, you must format the emulator. Here I will give you some instructional screens showing how I configured it.

Volumes, the first tab.
On the first tab, we click on the button Add, adding the image of the disc to the system. From this screen we can also create images of other hard drives and SheepShaver also monta the disk where you have the system X automatically installed on your desktop.

Graphics, the second tab
On the second tab you can define the size of the screen that you want the Classic to have.

Memory, la quinta pestaña del SheepShaver
In this tab you can assign the RAM size that you give to the Classic environment (256 Mb is enough). In the ROM file option you have to choose where is the ROM file extracted with TomeViewer.

JIT, the last tab
Finally on this tab you can activate the JIT Compiler.
That’s it! Now you have a classic system functioning on Intel that will allow you to execute QuarkXpress or any other program that you might be missing.
